We need a stick. If we don't have much, much, much greater faculty participation in the bargaining process, then the admin will think all is well and we have no leverage for asking for things -- like a return of the tuition waiver. It seems unlikely we'll unionize, since there is no galvanizing issue, so we'll not have the right to strike, but a motivated and interested faculty complement would go a long way to making sure that our bargainers are listened to.
